This is a well floating emerger pattern that is also great for fishing in stronger current. The fly can imitate different species of mayflies and midges, tail representing nymph shuck on the midge and tails or shuck on the hatching mayfly. This pattern is meant as an imitation of different baetidae mayflies but are also a general good fishing fly.
Flies like this; stuck in the surface film, partly over- and under signalize vulnerability which is a great trigger for fish refusing to take a higher riding dry fly. The abdomen has rib of pearl crystal flash, a known effective material that adds the little extra to a fly. The flash is especially good during low light, rain and clouded weather. The parachute hackle wrapped around the foam post makes the fly well floating and highly visible. A great fly for "klink and dink" fishing too.
Floatant tip:
- Add floatant to hackle and foam cylinder, this will make the abdomen penetrate the surface and fly will float correct.
- After a fish, rinse fly in water, dry with amodou and use dry shake brush to revitalize the fly. The brush is great as you can apply the powder with greater accuracy.
